Senate
Twice a year, in May and in October, two members from each Executive of RTO/ERO’s 47 Districts meet in Toronto in a special meeting called the Senate.
These District representatives, called Senators, gather for two or three days to receive reports from RTO/ERO’s President, Executive Director and the Provincial Executive, which is like a board of directors.
In addition, some Districts send one or two additional representatives as observers to learn more about the organization and to train as future Senators.
The Senators also receive reports from chairs of committees that provide advice to the Provincial Executive and to staff in areas such as:
- Health plans
- Political advocacy
- Communications
- Retirement Planning Workshops
- Recruitment of new members
- Travel
- Pension issues
- Retirement issues
At the October Senate meeting, a new Provincial Executive is elected, which helps run the organization between Senate meetings and gives direction to provincial committees and to staff on areas that need to be studied to help make RTO/ERO a stronger and better organization for its members.
At this meeting, the annual budget prepared by staff and endorsed by the Provincial Executive is approved by Senators.
Following each Senate meeting, the District representatives share the information presented with local members to keep them informed about the running of the organization.
