Categories of Membership

RTO/ERO offers two categories of membership – Full and Associate. Full members are retired teachers, and school and board administrators, receiving pension from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan or who commuted their pensions and had more than 15 years of credited service.
There are a wide variety of associate members, including: retired teachers with commuted or deferred pensions; educational support staff from school boards and schools, such as psychologists, consultants, office support staff, secretaries, custodians and board-employed bus drivers; retired teachers receiving a pension from private schools; and university and college faculty. The chart below outlines a description of each membership category within the full and associate categories, the rights and privileges of each, and the membership fee. Membership categories
Full Member i) A retired teacher who is receiving a pension from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan; Rights/Privileges:
Associate Member i) A retired teacher who is receiving a pension from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, and whose spouse is a Full Member under Section 4.01.
Rights/Privileges: Associate Member iv) the surviving spouse of a Full or Associate member who is not eligible to receive a teachers’ pension; Rights/Privileges:
Associate Member xi) An individual, actively employed in education, who is not retired and will be eligible upon retirement to be a Full or Associate member Rights/Privileges:
